Hi amwagner,
I had same concerns as I knew with my last born (at 41), that a good detox pathway for Mom is via breast milk.
As your daughter is showing signs of eczema, you may want to eliminate grains, legumes, soy, and yeast. See how she does then. If you have a history of family members with autoimmune, you may want to eliminate night shades as well. You are left with leans and greens and fruit and a small amount of nuts. Hang in, and you will get more sleep….key in this phase of new Mom status.
Dont get caught up with guilt and what you do and not do. Just do the best you can as having a baby can so stressful and great at the same time. Mixed bag, but we Moms don’t really ack the difficult side of mothering. Babies thrive and demand. They survive and grow, despite our health issues.
Take care of your self and try to get enough sleep and eat well.
Make sure to get your minerals. You may want to take a good PreNatal like one from Vital Nutrients (in lieu of separate Multiminerals and B’s). You can access via Authorization Code 0648. No folic acid!!! Also, you may also want to add lithium orotate, 2 caps per week, to move B12 to into cells where it does the methyl swap to complete what we call “methylation”. Seeking Health sells lithium orotate.
Cynthia
PS If you need more guidance, I’d be happy to assist. c.smith@lifezonewellness.com. Im winding down with new clients, but still see a few. I was pregnant, as a single Mom, scared and not feeling well while in law school and working. Difficult when she was born, as my daughter was not thriving and had skin issues and sleeping issues. Now she is gluten and dairy free, straight A’s and about to grow to 5′ 9″ at 16. Old photos; she physically looked emaciated but was happy and did well in school. Now, she is wearing my clothes and bemoaning the selection of boys in her school. It goes fast, so I say again, take care of yourself.

Looking for a professional to interpret my genome variant Report

Hi all,

I’m looking for someone who can do an interpretation of my DNA results (the variant report I purchased through MTHFRsupport) via Skype. A friend of mine had a consult with dr. Sterling for 100 dollars just a few months ago, but it seems I can not reach her anymore through the e-mail address she gave me (my e-mail bounced back). Is there anyone else who can help me with this?

I discovered I am compound heterozygous MTHFR and also have other mutations regarding methylation (COMT, CBS), and I’m looking for someone to explain me what this means, so I can search for professional help in The Netherlands regarding supplementation and further testing. My family doctor/physician has agreed to help me, but he says he does not understand the results and has no knowledge about methylation (and we don’t know any other physician who does). So if someone explains it to me, I can explain it to him and maybe we can get somewhere. :)

Thanks!
Greetings from Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Hello d.e.zeelenberg,

Sterling ceased consultations in late March to work on other related projects.

For interpretation and treatment plans you would need to work with a practitioner experienced in methylation and nutrigenomics such as those listed here
http://mthfrsupport.com/find-a-practitioner/. Many of the practitioners will consult via Skype or phone globally. Their websites can be accessed by clicking on the red icons then “more details” in the message box.

Please also read through the FAQs here http://mthfrsupport.com/frequently-asked-questions/ and feel welcome to post any further questions you may have here on the forum.

Help with Genetic Genie results? MAO-A = ++; COMT, VDR, MTHFR, MTRR, CBS = +-

Any chance some of you experts out there can help me figure out how to put together a detox/supplement plan to counter-act my mutations?

COMT V158M rs4680 AG +/-
COMT H62H rs4633 CT +/-
VDR Bsm rs1544410 CT +/-
VDR Taq rs731236 AG +/-
MAO-A R297R rs6323 TT +/+
MTHFR A1298C rs1801131 GT +/-
MTRR K350A rs162036 AG +/-
MTRR A664A rs1802059 AG +/-
CBS C699T rs234706 AG +/-
CBS A360A rs1801181 AG +/-

So far, it seems like I should supplement with B2, B3, methyl-folate, 5-HTP, and methyl-b12 (or is hydroxy better?)

I’d already been taking Jarrow’s B-Right once daily which contains all of those except the 5-HTP and it was great for about a week before making me extremely irritable. If I decrease supplementation with the B-Right to once every few days, would that be better? Am I on the right track at all? Other than adding in the 5-HTP, should I be adding other supplements?

Hi abcabc,

Self treatment is not advised and providing such advise would be considered treatment and not appropriate to do here. Please consider working with an experienced practitioner and running your raw data through Sterling’s App report which is far more comprehensive reporting on over 800 SNPs.

Practitioners experienced in methylation and nutrigenomics who can interpret your report can be found here http://mthfrsupport.com/find-a-practitioner/.
Many will consult via Skype or phone.

You may also find the FAQs helpful http://mthfrsupport.com/frequently-asked-questions/.

Paying 30$ for only viewing the same results as with the other services and without any interpretation whatsoever makes me slightly dissapointed.

I agree! I am more than slightly disappointed with the results. In my role as Nutritional therapist I thought I might be able to advise people on whether they should go down the gene testing route. I can’r see that happening now, at least not via MTHFR support!

Hi livio.steiner,

Sterling explains in this link why interpretations are not included with the report.
http://mthfrsupport.com/forums/topic/app-does-not-come-with-interpretations/

The report is the most comprehensive and accurate available with over 800 SNPs, pathway diagrams and search functions unique to this report.

Interpretation should be done by a practitioner experienced in interpretation, methylation and nutrigenomics.
There is a listing of such practitioners here http://mthfrsupport.com/find-a-practitioner/.

The FAQs here http://mthfrsupport.com/frequently-asked-questions/ may also be helpful to you.

There are also articles and links to radio shows on the website blog here http://mthfrsupport.com/blog/ relating to the report which you may also find helpful.

Hi balm1,

Please refer to my response to livio.steiner above.

Many practitioners use the report as one of many diagnostic tools to provide their patients with an individualized treatment plan.

The report does need to be interpreted and this is done by practitioners experienced in interpretation, methylation and nutrigenomics.

http://www.mabim.org provides resources and mentoring for practitioners interested in training so may be something to consider.

I have essential tremor and understand that rs9652490 is a SNP in the LINGO1 gene that is suspected as a factor in this disease. But I can’t find it in my report. Can you please tell me where to look?

Thanks so much.

Hi astrofrau,

LINGO1 rs9652490 is not included in Sterling’s App V2 Variant Report.

23andMe do test for this SNP so you can find your genotype on your raw data page by keying in rs9652490 into the Jump to A SNP search bar.

More information about this SNP can be found here http://www.snpedia.com/index.php/Rs9652490 and here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/?term=rs9652490
There is some conflict about which allele is the risk for this SNP as you will see when reading through the studies.

Hi jtstromain03,

ALDOB is not yet on Sterling’s App V2 variant report.

If you have the V2 report you can use the Tag and SNP search functions to locate genes, SNPs, tags etc on the report.

Discrepancies among reports

Hello, I’m hoping someone can explain the discrepancies in my results generated from different sources. I’ve run my 23 and Me data through Genetic Genie, Promethease and MTHFR Support and I’ve also have separate test results done through Younique Labs in Toronto, Canada. For several genes, my genotype is reported differently (even within the reports generated from 23andMe data).

Thank-you for your input.

Nutritional guidance

Are there any nutritional guidelines for those who are not methylating very well, with several genetic mutations in MTHFR along with other areas (liver detox 1 & II, Sulfur transverse pathway, etc.)

This in me shows up with chronic fatigue, heavy metal toxicity, leaky gut, hoshimoto’s and low thyroid, severe salicylate sensitivity, severe histamine intolerance / migraines.

While I assume a “paleo” anti-candida diet sound logical, I have also seen Dr. Amy Yasko generally recommend a low protein/moderate carbohydrate diet (gluten free/casein free).

I am overall confused as to which direction to go with my diet. I am looking for the diet that would support the overall MTHFR supports I am on.

Many thanks,
Shannon

Hi Shannon,

You mentioned Paleo and transulfuration pathway SNPs. One can exacerbate other. Its difficult to tell without knowing more wrt SNPs. Please let me know exactly what your SNPs are. Then, maybe we can correspond offline. Until then, please contact me via this Forum. Im not taking new clients, but would be happy to give you some suggestions. Cynthia

Hello Shannon, I am in the same boat . I could have written the same post myself . I am also going insane trying to figure out a diet . It seems like nothing is safe for me – even healthy foods others can enjoy screw me up. I’m seeing my doctor soon and if I can pass on any advice I will . Sorry I couldn’t respond with help now .
